Out of This Life

Out of this life I shall never take
Things of silver and gold I make.
All that I cherish and hoard away
After I leave, on earth must stay.
Though I have toiled for a painting rare
To hang on my wall, I must leave it there.
Though I call it mine and boast its worth,
I must give it up when I quit the earth.
All that I gather and all that I keep
I must leave behind when I fall asleep.
And I wonder often, just what I shall own
In that other life, when I pass alone.
What shall He find and what shall He see
In the soul that answers the call for me?
Shall the great Judge learn, when my task is through,
That my soul had gathered some riches, too?
Or shall at the last, it be mine to find,
That all I had worked for I'd left behind?

1 Corinthians 3:12
Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Blessed Be the Lord

We were lost, but we are found,
Dead, but now alive are we;
We were sore in bondage bound,
But our Jesus sets us free.

Strangers, and He takes us in,
Naked, and He becomes our dress,
Sick, and He from stain of sin
Cleanses with His righteousness.

Therefore, will we sing His praise
Who His lost ones hath restored,
Hearts and voices both shall raise
Allelujahs to the Lord.

John S. B. Monsell, 1863.
No. 562 in C.H. Spurgeon's "Our Own Hymn Book"

Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Beautiful

Beautiful hands are they that do
Deeds that are noble, good and true;
Beautiful feet are they that go
Swiftly to lighten another's woe.

- Mc Guffey -

Romans 10:15 ...as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

A Christian's Liberties

I seek no life but to serve my Lord,
I seek no liberty but to obey His word,
I seek no happiness but the smile of His face,
I seek no justice but rest in His grace.

Mary Van Nattan Stephens

Philippians 1:21
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

The Difference

To live above
With those we love,
Oh! That will be glory!

To live below
With those we know,
Now, that's another story.

The Old Black Book
KJV 1611

This old, black Book and I,
To reach a home on high,
By it I'll live and die,
This old, black Book and I.

This black Book shows to me,
From sin I can be free,
Through Christ once on the tree,
And raised to victory.

This old, black Book of mine,
In glory doth it shine,
The words of God divine,
This old, black Book of mine.

Hebrews 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Looking Forward

We look for a city that hath foundations,
Whose builder and maker is God;
We don't owe a thing to this old wicked world,
But here is the path we must trod;
While our true relations,
The saints of all nations,
Sing gladly God's praises above;
All washed by the blood,
Of the dear Son of God,
Christ Jesus, the one whom we love.

Revelation 21:18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.   19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones...
