Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret
By Dr. and Mrs. Howard Taylor
Paperback
Buy New: $6.99

This is an encouraging book. Emphasizes his determination to live by faith. Be somewhat cautious. There seems to be a tendency to present Hudson Taylor's method of living out his faith as if it were the only and best way to do so. There is no patented method to living by faith. We are each to be fully persuaded in our own mind and will give account of ourselves to the Lord. (Rom. 14). But, the book is still useful, and recommended reading.

The edifying story of Nate Saint, the pilot who flew the missionaries into the Auca territory of Ecuador on that nortorious day when 5 missionay men gave their lives that a people might hear the Gospel. Highly recommended. This book records than just a straightforward story of a man's life. Mr. Hitt included many of Nate's own thoughts and comments from letters and such, many of which are challenging and encourage some serious thinking.

The Little Woman
Christine Hunter
Paperback
Buy New: $5.99

The true story of one woman's incredible journey in the service of her King. Willing to suffer poverty and live among strangers in a strange land, Gladys Aylward lived many years in inland China, barely escaping the Communist take over. (Note: the movie about her does not do justice to the actual story, as usual. Also, this book is more spiritual minded than some of the books about her.)

By Searching: My Journey Through Doubt into Faith
By Isobel Kuhn
Paperback
Buy New: $5.99
Isobel Kuhn, missionary to China, here tells the story of how she came to salvation. Raised in a Christian home, she turned her back on all she had been taught about God. But He, in His great mercy, drove her to the end of herself where, in answer to the faithful prayers of those who loved her, she was forced to look back to what she had abandoned. The book also chronicles her early walk with Christ and her experiences learning to walk by faith. A useful and very interesting story. (Caution: possibly other Bible translations used. Please check verses in your King James Bible.)

In the Arena
By Isobel Kuhn
Paperback

Buy New: $6.95
Of the Isobel Kuhn books I have read, this is probably my favorite. I read this book at a time when I was going through some real struggles in life, and this book was very helpful. It challenges the reader to live a sacrificial life, to be a gazingstock without resenting it, to suffer with Christ without the camp. The theme is to show different ways the Lord puts us in the areana to crucify the flesh and yield it to Him. It covers many incidents over the course of her life. Highly Recommended. (Caution: possibly other Bible translations used. Please check verses in your King James Bible.)

Stones of Fire
By Isobel Kuhn
Paperback
Buy New: $6.99
A beautiful story of the results of missionary work. This book tells the true story of a couple in Lisuland, a tribal area of China; how they came to Christ, grew, struggled and triumphed in Him. It shows us that Christians in other cultures have many of the same problems and trials we do. This book is especially useful for young couples and young people close to marrying as it shows some of the common problems that can cause trouble in a Christian marriage.
