Ecclesiastes
12:12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books
there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
Generally
speaking, the best method for homeschooling is to use a variety of books from
different producers of curriculum. The reason for this is that each publisher
tends to have different weaknesses and strengths. For the early grades you
may wish to use one curriculum for all subjects for convenience. For the
lower grades probably the best that we are aware of is the Rod and Staff curriculum.

Where
to look for used text books To begin
with, you might look for second hand text books of your choice at home school
book fairs. You may be able to get them cheap or trade what you don't need any
more for what you do need. Keep your ears open for Christian
schools that are closing down or getting new text books. There may even
be a Christian school in your area that would be willing to sell you their used
books that they are replacing. Be careful though, they may want to charge
you more than the books are worth. Check the used
book section of your public library. Ours has a used book store.
You may find text books that were donated that the library is selling.
Look in second hand stores and used book stores for the text
books you need. (Also, look for music books if you have a child that is
learning to play an instrument.) If you have friends that
are home schooling that have kids older than yours, ask them if you can buy their
used books from them, if they are using the type you want. And don't forget
that someone else may want to buy your books! Keep books in good condition
so they will be worth selling. Have your kids write their answers on paper
instead of in the text book. Do not order new books every year for every
child. Keep the books they finish for your next child that will need them.
Find useful books for
your home school.
