Vera Crips is Aunt Thelma's mother. She and her husband had a dairy farm in "the thumb" area of Michigan. Being a true farmer, Mr. Crips always held to the opinion that flat land is better.

Gramma was very fond of summertime, and probably even more so because she liked fresh fruit. She ate it on her inevitable bowl of cold cereal almost every morning. Much of the year she made do with bananas, but she would indulge in other fruit, especially when it was in season. She particularly liked strawberries and blueberries; but would occasionally even splurge on some raspberries, although I think her strong economical side almost couldn't bare the strain of such a luxury.
